OOC Communication
- ❧ How do I get in contact with other players?
- IRC is the primary method of communication for this RP, there is a guide for using it here. You can also use the OOC Contact List to find emails or plurk user names or other forms of contact to get a hold of individuals.
- ❧ What about reaching the mods?
- Info on mod contact is here. We also have a mod plurk at
thusiamods which is primarily used for announcements, but sometimes game discussion, and we encourage everyone who uses plurk to friend it.
- ❧ I prefer using AIM, can Thusia have an AIM chat?
- We're against having an official AIM chat for Thusia for a number of reasons!
A) The founding playerbase have been using IRC for OOC communication for years.
B) IRC allows for pings, which means if you aren't interested in in chatting, you can still sit in chan and be pinged only whenever people are talking about something you care about. AIM doesn't allow this.
C) IRC allows for the creation of smaller chat rooms, for when casts want to divide off from each other, or for when multiple rooms are needed for game running purposes.
That said, we certainly are not going to stop players from creating and using AIM chatrooms for whatever they want, but it won't be a place where you can find a mod, and we probably won't advertise it because we would prefer the playerbase not be split across so many different chat mediums.

Applications
- ❧ When are apps open?
- Character apps are always open. We want this to be an easily accessible game so we try make the apping process as quick as possible.
- ❧ When are apps read?
- Generally within few days of receiving it. We send out acceptance emails generally every week on Friday so that players can intro their characters in groups or solo if preferred to establish IC CR more easily over weekends. Please check if Friday has passed before contacting us about your app if you're waiting for a response.
- ❧ What's the character limit per player?
- Thusia technically has no character limit! However, when apping a sixth character or more there are additional steps which must be completed to have those apps considered.
- ❧ Can I reserve a character?
- Nope! Applications are first come, first serve. On the rare occasion where there is only one slot open for a character and we receive dups before anyone is accepted, we will compare them against each other.
- ❧ What types of characters are appable?
- Any type of character from a work of fiction is appable! Along with straight-from-canon characters, we also accept OCs, AUs, fandom characters, and characters from previous games.
- ❧ What is your policy on doubles?
- ❧ There may be at least two versions of any one character in game at any given time. The versions need to be significantly different from each other. They can both be from canon if they are from very different points in canon, or they can be one from canon and one from AU, or one AU and one PG, or one PG and one from a different PG or any combination at all really.
❧ In the case of canon clones, as long as they are actually different characters (not the same character who is constantly clone replaced), they will count as separate characters for the purpose of this rule. So the Meta-Doctor and Doctor's Daughter are separate from the Doctor, but Doctors 10 and 11 are still the same Doctor.
❧ In the case of the same character across multiple AUs of one canon universe, they are counted as one character. So basically DC's Bruce Wayne can only be apped twice despite him having like 80 unique canons or whatever.
❧ In the case of the 'same character' across canons in different universes, they are treated as separate characters. Ex: King Arthur from Merlin and King Arthur from Disney's Sword in the Stone. - ❧ Do you allow thirds?
- There is only one instance where we allow a third version of a character. That is, if there are two versions of a character in game, and another version of that character that is Good-Ended (a special drop status for characters who stuck with the game six months or more), the Good-Ended version can be reapped at any time regardless of whether there are already two versions of that character active. We expect a Good-Ended version of that character to have significantly different experiences from any other versions.
- ❧ Are there any types of characters you don't allow?
- Our only concern would be that this is a game that encourages dark and adult themes. If we have concerns about your character being able to handle it because they are physically or emotionally five, we will probably talk to you about that. But no one is going to be outright rejected for their character selection.
- ❧ What about AUs and OCs? Is it anything goes?
- Yesss and no. Let's start with AUs.
You may app any kind of AU you can name, including cat ears and genswap. However, we ask that you keep in mind that this is not a dressing room, and the point of an AU character shouldn't be straight up lulz. Want to explore how different your character would or would not be if he had been born a she? Go for it. We aren't demanding dramatic and impacting differences. Just that you play it straight and don't do it for nothing but the boob jokes.
We also ask that you don't do it to circumvent the rule that only one person can app a character straight from canon. Trying to give them an AU that makes no real change just because the character you wanted is already taken is not permissible.
Now on to OCs.
You may app fandom or your own OCs, however you may not couple them with AU fandom. For example: You are free to app a wizard from Hogwarts of your own creation, but you can't say that he is from an AU verse where he was Harry's true bff and also gay lover. However, if you want to say he witnessed several events in the book or even took part in them (such as being part of the final defense at Hogwarts), go for it. We just ask that you use some judgement here. - ❧ Can an AU go so AU that it becomes an OC?
- Yes. If your character's AU history is so colorful, and so far away from canon, that the changes in the character result in someone who is essentially an entirely different person, we will count that character as an OC instead of an AU. In this way there can essentially be unlimited versions of a single 'character', but the majority of them would be expected to not resemble the canon character.
- ❧ Can I app a character who doesn't have very much canon?
- Yes! However, we require that you basically have come up with sufficient headcanon for this character that you can write an app for them to the same standards we require for any character. You don't have to tell us all about the headcanon in great detail, but it will be obvious if you don't know more about them than whatever brief snippets canon provides.
- ❧ If I want to app an animal character, would they/can they be anthropomorphized?
- You may app a humanoid version of an animal or beast character if you make them an AU version that has always been that way, or acquired that ability at some point. However, the actual process of bringing them to Thusia would not suddenly turn them humanoid.
You also have the option of apping the character in their animal form and finding a god who can make a deal with them to get their form changed. - ❧ I want to app, but I don't want to kill my character, can I have him die of old age and be brought in with a younger form?
- You could app an old version of a character but unfortunately they will not be deaged upon arrival. While we realize killing a character earlier than their time can be hard, everyone arrives in Thusia more-or-less under the same circumstances: your life ended, it bites, and there's no going home. Since it is a game with dark themes we also feel it's a good way to get your feet wet.
- ❧ My character will eventually die in canon, but hasn't yet. Can I app him now, have him not remember his death, and use that when it happens?
- Short answer, yes, but only if we assume your character won't age like fifty years before that happens (which would put you in the same category as the question above this one).
However, we can allow canon updates rarely, so if you want to use that you can. But please keep in mind that: A) You can only canon update in one large dump, not slowly regain memories as chapters come out, and B) You need to talk to the mods when you want to update, so that we can arrange something for you. - ❧ I got asked for a revision, do you hate my app 8(a?
- If we think your app is weak, we will reject you outright. Revisions are generally either to clear up confusion on our end, or to ask you to take a second look at parts of the app we felt were weaker than the rest, or even to consider something we think you might have missed all together.
ICness is very important to Thusia, and we do want to maintain a certain quality of play. But revisions are never personal. Apps simply can only do so much to tell us about a player's ability, and some people aren't nearly as good at writing apps as they are actually playing their character. Revisions are sort of double-check to get a better feel of the player and the character. - ❧ Where can I apply?
- The Applications page can be found here.

Powercap
- ❧ How is regeneration/passive defensive abilities affected by the powercap?
- All abilities are affected by the powercap the same: however you want. The rule of thumb is always that battle should be hard, so if someone's regeneration is so strong that they never fall in battle, it is too powerful for this game. But whether you want it to only work temporarily at the cost of stamina, or to simply be less effective, or to be gone for good, is up to you.
- ❧ Is there a limit on weapon size?
- Anything your character can carry around in their two hands is go, yes even if it is Masamune. However, keep in mind that there is no way to actually fetch something from their own world, so if there is something else they would rather have, that can be carried on their person, then it may be best to bring that and figure out a different way to acquire a weapon here.
- ❧ What if my summon turns into something bigger than my character can carry?
- As long as it has a form that can be carried, you may still bring along summons that turn into motorcycles/ponies/racecars/gundams! Just be mindful of where they transform. Your summons will find it very painful if they try to morph in a hallway too small to hold them.
Additionally, summons are under the same stipulation as everyone else: fighting is hard. Please powercap them appropriately.

Arrival
- ❧ What is arriving in Thusia like? Did they come here immediately after their death? Should my characters gets 'death whiplash' from their arrival?
- Generally speaking, characters probably did not arrive in Thusia immediately following their death. All characters should have a sense that they died, and some may have a sense that they have been dead. If you would like your characters to get the feeling they were in the afterlife prior to their arrival in Thusia, that is absolutely fine, but they should have no clear memories of it (unless their pre-death canon was being in the afterworld already).
If you would like to play out a death whiplash effect, where the character is still physically or mentally engrossed by the feeling of their own death, and then they suddenly find themselves alive and whole in Thusia, you may! But for the most part the effect of death prior to arrival should be how the character died, what that means to them, and not so much emphasis on 'Oh my god I just felt a knife go through my throat and then I was here'. - ❧ Does my character arrive with all of his clothes? Does that count as one of his items brought in?
- Your character should arrive in whatever he died in. Clothing and accessories do not count as one of your two items unless it has some kind of special property beyond 'covering up your body' or 'looking pretty'. If your character wears a full suit of armor, he can keep the full thing as 'one item' if it is ordinary armor. If your character wears a robe of +10 tree burning and a helm of +10 stabbing, each of those items would be one slot.
- ❧ Can my character bring in one item full of stuff, like a backpack or suitcase?
- Yes but only as long as the 'stuff' inside is mundane items. For example, a backpack with schoolbooks and pencils and a phone and smokes is fine. A backpack with eight knives, a sword, and a mace is not. Weapons or special magical items will still count for one slot each. So you can bring in two items from your weapon backpack, or a backpack full of clothes and your mace, but not backpack and mace and sword.
- ❧ What if my character died messily, will their clothes be all torn up?
- Nope. Just as her body will be restored, so will her clothing. Unless a character died naked, or unless a character was wearing all magic/defensive equipment and the player didn't opt to bring them in, everyone should arrive fully clothed and not looking as if they were just stabbed a few dozen times.

Dropping and Hiatusing
- ❧ What happens to my character if I drop them?
- Thusia has a variety of drop options, which you can check out on the Drop and Hiatus page, that cover a variety of different bases so that hiatusing or dropping can be as dramatic or simple as the players wish OOCly. However, ultimately they will still be somewhere in the world of Thusia, just outside of active play if they're still alive.
- ❧ What are the effects of Comas/the jungle fever?
- The jungle fever drop/hiatus option means your character becomes sick (feverish, hypersensitive to light and touch) and within a day or so falls into a coma. Their fever will gradually die and only return in fluctuations while the character is coma'd. Jungle fever may sometimes be cured by those working to find one, or be recovered from. Unfortunately, the virus seems to mutate uniquely inside each host, so a cure that works for one person may not work for another. The nature of the illness also prevents god intervention (not unlike how the gods cannot take down the forest on their own).
Someone who recovers from jungle fever will be physically tired, weak, and sore, depending on how long they suffered it. There are no long lasting effects. Anyone who wishes to come down with jungle fever may do so at any time, they may also notice that they are getting the symptoms and chat with their CR before falling into a coma. - ❧ What are the effects of being Lost/captured by nature?
- Those lost in nature cannot be found until they are ready to come back from hiatus or drop. Most who get lost will be found in areas covered with millions of spiders and many huge webs, with the character cocooned in silk with only one limb exposed for the spiders to feed on. The character will experience anemia, dehydration, and mild starvation depending on how long they have been gone. It is not pleasant!
Characters captured by spiders generally need to be found by someone else, as they are not easy to escape from. However, this much can be handwaved for player convenience.
Characters can also be eaten by giant flower buds that will not physically harm them but may give them a psychedelic trip or mess with their memories. - ❧ What about the other hiatus/drop options?
- Please see the Hiatus and Drop page for more details.
- ❧ Will sending characters back to their home worlds ever be a drop option?
- Unfortunately, no. Thusia as a game is built on the premise that the characters' previous lives are over, but they have the option to start anew on Thusia. Allowing an option to go home alive undermines that premise, and could dramatically change the course of characters who would never start a second life if they had any hope of returning home. As such, being irrevocably separated from their home world is an immutable fact of Thusian life, much like death is in the real world. It does, without a doubt, suck for most characters, but figuring out how to come to terms with that is basic part of Thusian life that all characters will have to deal with at some point.
- ❧ Should I feel socially awkward about dropping someone when (I've only had them for a week/I am going to app someone else/I have a big cast in game that will be traumatized by my character's departure)?
- Aaaabsolutely not. One of the cornerstones of Thusia is offering a game with high quality players and a rich atmosphere where you can none-the-less app a character while high on excite, and then drop out in a couple of weeks if it turned out that was a bad idea.
Of course, we do want players to stay. We really really do, but we'd prefer you stayed because you loved playing your character, and not a perceived social obligation to do so. If a character isn't working out for you and you don't want to play them? Don't. If you decide you want to app someone else instead? Go ahead. Seriously, it's cool.
However, as a note, we really appreciate it if you do drop rather than wait to idle out if you aren't playing a character. Seriously, there are no hard feelings if a character doesn't work out for you, so there is no reason you should worry about dropping if necessary. - ❧ Where can I go to drop/hiatus?
- You can drop your character or declare hiatus here.

Reapplication
- ❧ Can I reapp?
- So you've decided to come back! Spiffy. You can app over here where all the other applicants go. You do send in a complete app again, however you may reuse your previous application! Mainly, you should be sure to add a new paragraph about what changes your character has undergone in Thusia, if any, in the 'previous game information' section.
Remember to consider the circumstances of how they were dropped, whether they were lost or drafted or coma'd or whatever; this will affect how they return to the game. - ❧ What are the side effects upon reapping my own character?
- This depends on what drop option you used! Scroll up to the drop/hiatus section to read about the side effects of your particular drop route.
- ❧ Can I app a character previously played by someone else?
- Yes! In general if you app the same character as someone else after they've been dropped, that character will simply be a new version, and will arrive at the shrines the same as all new arrivals do.
However if you want to reapp specifically the character that was played by someone else, we do allow that as long as you have contacted that player and worked out how you want to play it, whether by using an IC mechanic to wipe their previous experiences in Thusia or by continuing as if there was no player switch. The key is that there must be OOC communication and an OK from the previous player in this specific case.

Gods
- ❧ When do god apps open?
- God apps are now always open. You may submit at any time.
- ❧ What happens if I want to drop or change out my god?
- If you would like to drop your god, please send the mods an email! We have various possible routes for god dropping that we'll discuss with you so it can be some kind of personalized event, or simply having them leave and fade, in order to have some way for them to free up their domains for future appers
- ❧ How do I make a deal to get super powers from a god?
- Gods can grant various powers, but only by becoming their priest. This applies even if you simply want your canon magic returned in some form. You can read about Available Priesthoods which are template powers offered, but gods can also branch outside of that if there is something your character would take up priesthood for that might fall into that god's domain.

Nature
- ❧ What is up with 'Don't Eat the Nature', seriously?
- It's poisoned. All of it. Getting it on your skin or breathing it in won't hurt you, but trying to ingest anything, whether it is flora, fauna, or water from the wild, will give you pretty awful food poisoning. You won't die, but I promise you will regret it.
- ❧ But our characters need to eat!
- The nature goddess Veseiy managed a one-time deal where people could obtain immunity from the poison, so some characters DO have immunity! However, if asked again for a solution, she may not be able to provide it considering the majority of those ingredients were difficult to obtain. Dathusropi offers something similar, but only to characters who have been drafted by him while they are drafted. Once they return to HQ, they are just as susceptible to poisons as they were before being drafted.
Gods can take the poison out at a very low cost. Generally speaking, you are welcome to handwave daily necessities like this, much like how you probably don't roleplay it every time your character takes a nap. But the point is there is no way to survive in Thusia without at least basic interaction with the gods, and you should figure that into your play as well.
Other solutions will have to come from the characters themselves.

Game Mechanics
- ❧ Does my character's magic still work?
- Check the powercap page and come back if you still have questions.
- ❧ Can I bring my pet/pokemon/persona along?
- Yes, as long as they are not a playable character in their own right, and you assume they were nearby at your character's death, you can count them as one of the items being brought into the game. That means a maximum of two pokemon/persona/what have you. Keep in mind they must also be powercapped.
- ❧ If our characters are fighting all of the time, and expected to take injury, won't they actually be recovering all the time?
- The same power that allows nature to constantly push and grow at incredible rates also heals injuries relatively quickly. Something large, like say, a stab wound that might hold a person up for weeks in the real world, will heal itself in about three days in Thusia.
This natural healing stacks with whatever innate healing abilities your character has (after they are powercapped), so if your character is careful to not take any major injuries, smaller ones will heal up overnight and let them fight again.
If your character takes a near fatal amount of damage, it would probably take them more like a week to recover, but gods are also available to help out with that. - ❧ How does everyone speak to each other?
- Upon arriving all characters will discover a Thusian common language has been added to their skill inventory. They can speak whatever language they wish, but Thusian is the only guaranteed way everyone will be able to understand you. If your character opts to speak some other language, please make an OOC note so that other players know.
- ❧ What are these alloi things?
- Allos (singular) or alloi (plural) are basically the Thusian words for headmonsters. That is to say, any unique creature that lives in another's mind. Note that this does not cover split personalities, though an allos might have a personality specifically designed to be the opposite of the person whose head it is living in. The point is that alloi are unique beings unto themselves, even if they happen to have a symbiotic relationship with another's mind.
Luna is the god of alloi, and one of the things she can do is give characters their own allos. She has a few varieties so if you are interested in one, talk to the player about it! Luna should also be your first go-to if dealing with canon headmonsters (such as Noah, Persona, and so on). - ❧ Can I murder people/Take revenge into my own hands?
- Of course! But, the thing about Thusia is we pretty much invite all characters to do what is IC for them! So if your character would kill people, cool, but someone else's character might go to great lengths to get your character back for that, and that is also cool!
Basically, don't app a character if you aren't willing to fully play out the consequences! Some characters WILL hold villains and vigilantes responsible for their actions, and while we do want everyone to have fun and play to their comfort levels, it is unacceptable to introduce major things like murder to the game and then refuse to deal with the consequences a week, or even months later.
Essentially, this is a game where we want death treated with weight. Please keep this in mind when apping and playing.
Oh, it should go without saying, but we are talking IC here. Don't kill people period without talking to the players OOCly. - ❧ How do death and revival work?
- Thusia is a game with dark themes, so obviously we don't have problem with death or murder of any kind! However, death itself is not treated as lightly as it might be at other games, so here are some things to know about the IC and OOC consequence of killing another character or having your own character die.
The most important thing is to be aware of is that revival is generally not instant. If your character dies they will be out of commission for a few days OOCly, and if your character is the one working to get them revived, the price is going to fairly significant and may take some IC work on your part. In short, some planning is in order.
If You Die...
Generally speaking, someone else has to revive you. This can only be done by bargaining with the gods. While the gods do want everyone alive, they simply don't have the power to do it for free, and the cost is often hefty!
At this time, only one god is capable of revival. They are:
Leedin who takes one year of a volunteer's life (either aging them up or down, whichever is more inconvenient), this procedure also 'distances' their memories, so they feel like they were a year ago. Notably, if the person making the sacrifice is immortal, the measure of time taken would be much greater. Also, the way Leedin's powers work, the death would simply have not happened. So the one killed would lose all memory of the event.
Please talk to the player OOCly so that they can make sure you are fully informed on the effects of both making the sacrifice and being revived.
If You Kill...
Several gods will probably be cranky with you! Most of them are not big on killing the people so painstakingly brought here. It is also possible that the cost of the sacrifice for revival will fall on your character's head.
In time there will be more revival options as we get more gods! But it will still always be a process, so please just be aware that Thusia is not a game that allows easily handwaved death/revivals. We think death and the after effects should be something that people have to play with for a while, and any new gods who offer revivals will continue to reflect this.
Finally, anytime a god is needed to revive someone, please let a mod know! It's totally okay we just need to keep tabs on how often it happens.
